Iris photo
Fun Fact Iris Photo: your eyes are not green!
Discover the fascination and exciting facts about iris photos
The special thing about iris photography is that it captures every feature in your eye. Every shape and colour is captured, and each person's iris is unique. But why does the eye not appear green in my iris photo, even though it says so on my identity card? Basically, every person in the world has the same eye colour - namely blue. However, how a colour is perceived depends on pigments in our eye, which consist of melanin. If the eye is not blue, the molecules of melanin act as a kind of yellow filter. The eye only appears green when blue light hits our eye. Therefore, your eye actually looks different in the iris photo than how you normally perceive it. Get to know and love your eye from a completely different perspective with an iris photo shoot.
Whether alone, with a partner or the whole family - an iris photo is always a special experience and makes a great gift or picture in your own four walls. But how is an iris photo taken, what do you have to pay attention to and what options are there?

Distribution of eye colours in Germany
Unfortunately, there is no current study on eye colours in Germany and not all eye colours can be clearly assigned. In summary, the results of the 2008 study by the University of Saarland show that brown eyes are the most common eye colour in Germany with 31.07%, followed by blue eyes with 30.20%, green eyes with 18.36%, grey eyes with 3.35% and a mixture of different eye colours with 17.07%. Since brown eyes are dominant and children are more likely to have brown eyes, the proportion of blue eyes in Germany is expected to continue to decrease in the future.

How is an iris photo made?
You can take an iris photo in all PicturePeople photo studios in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands. We usually use an iris photo box to take the irises. You hold your head in the photo box and leave your eye wide open for a short moment. You can also hold your eye open with two fingers for support. Don't worry, we take several iris photos and choose the best result.
For whom is the iris shooting suitable and what do I have to pay attention to?
For the perfect iris photos, we recommend that you come to your appointment with no make-up on your eyelashes and without contact lenses. Although photography with contact lenses and mascara is possible, it can affect the results.
We recommend the iris shooting from the age of 4, as the head must be held still for the photo and younger children are confronted with an unfamiliar situation due to the distance and flash. We also do not recommend the shooting for epileptics or for people who have had eye surgery, due to the sometimes successive shots with a flash.

No, an iris photography is not harmful to the eye, as the iris photo is taken with a flash that is harmless to the eye.
